This will be a fun little variety of favorites for 2024. Starting off with what I’ve been watching/ rewatching and would recommend to anyone who shares my interests. Followed by a product, book(s), and food I feel worth mentioning.
Watch/ Rewatch:
All of the shows I am about to name are 5 star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ binge worthy Netflix series. I have watched each several times over.
Blue eye samurai- Storytelling and animation at its finest. Blue eye samurai originally aired in 2023 and has been renewed for a second season. I have already watched it multiple times 😅. The show is an action packed adult anime. Each episode is breathtaking ascetically and impeccably written. Synopsis: a mixed-race swordmaster named Mizu who seeks revenge against four white men who illegally remained in Japan during the 17th century.
Arcane League of Legends- I watched season 1 when it aired in 2021 and bragged about it back then. Season 2 (the final season) exceeded the first in way of pacing, narrative, and animation. This show is based on video games. I’m not a gamer and couldn’t explain the premise in detail. But what was understood from watching, I found to be compelling. To add to the boast, both seasons have awesome soundtracks. I just found out there are other shows in development within the world of Arcane. If you love anime as much as I do, highly recommend you check it out. Synopsis: Arcane tells the origin story of two League of Legends champions, sisters Vi and Jinx, and the conflict between the cities of Piltover and Zaun.
Bridgerton season 3- In my opinion season 3 of Bridgerton is the best. Possibly due to my preference for the friends to lovers trope. Nonetheless, this season felt more authentic in comparison to previous ones. Especially, those sections focused on the main plot. The story of Colin and Penelope quickly grew on me. So much so, that I found myself reading their book. The intimacy scenes are removed from the fantasy element that is typically applied to the show and brings in a real world sense to the experience which was refreshing.
Nobody wants this- This last mention was a surprise. I became interested in watching it as a fan of the main actors, Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, but didn’t expect to enjoy it. The chemistry between the actors is believable. Additionally, the comedy in each episode genuinely made me laugh. I appreciate that the characters were in their mid to late thirties. Netflix has renewed it for another season, proving how well the show was received by viewers.
Product:
Vanicream sunscreen- This is an SPF 30 moisturizing sunscreen. I’ve used and have recommended Olay moisturizer with SPF 15. While I still would endorse the product, I was in search for a stronger SPF. The problem that I’ve ran into with higher broad spectrum sunscreens is they don’t blend well and tend to “bleed” out when I sweat. The Vanicream sunscreen does not; it blends well with my skin tone and is sweat resistant. Additionally, I find it to be a great day time moisturizer.
Read:
I didn’t read as much this year, sad to say, compared to last. I read about 7 books. They are not worth mentioning as I found them most to be dull with the exception of two.
Funny story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- This romcom written by Emily Henry is delightfully funny and believable. The two love interest find themselves in a predicament with their exes that eventually turns out beneficial in developing their relationship. It’s rare for a novel to really make me laugh out loud and this one joins the list of rarities. I found myself chuckling throughout. I loved the banter and personalities of both main characters. Also, the novel is getting a screen adaptation and I cannot wait to see it. “Happy Place” is another book recommendation, I throughly enjoyed even more, and it’s written by the same author .
Ready or not ⭐️⭐️⭐️- If you can’t tell, my genre of choice is romantic comedy. The main character of this novel is expecting and navigating her way while unexpectedly falling for her friend’s brother. A very cute, lighthearted story. The dynamic between the two main characters was genuine and by the end of the story I was convinced of their love. It’s a friends to lovers trope, of course, and it was done well.
Food:
Publix spicy popcorn chicken- A shameful plug because I shouldn’t eat fired food. But I brought this fried chicken, it was a hunger purchase. I don’t know why I’m just now discovering that Publix has a spicy version of their popcorn chicken , but oh my lord they are so good. Not too oily and not spicy at all, just flavorful. Lately, these have been a purchase for me every other weekend and I do need to stop. LOL. Nonetheless, it is some good chicken.
I have just created the best stay at home weekend. You’ve got your sunscreen because you have to wear it rain or shine, indoors or out. You’ve got food to indulge in and you’ve got a great book or show of choice. 😎
Enjoy,
Alisia Latoi
